Book Archive

My Book Archive,
Where it all began!
I have created this archive for people interested in learning about how my book writing began. All of my books are copyrighted and are protected against infringement.
My First Book

This is my very first book titled "World Of My Little Ponies." It was copyrighted & hand published by me in 1996 when I was 18. It is plastic spiral bond with black canvas back, and a clear front over the color cover. It contains descriptions of the US ponies, places, clothes, etc. It also contains cleaning tips, list of terms, and my first pony poem.
It was created shortly after I got on the Internet. I helped ID ponies on the AOL pony board. Soon I started getting lists of 200+ ponies from people asking me to identify them. Thus my first book was created. It was available only through me.
*********************************************
My Second Book

This is my second book titled "The World Of My Little Ponies 2nd Edition." It was copyrighted and hand published by me in 1997 when I was 19. It too is plastic spiral bond with a clear front and back sheet over the two color covers. It contains updated information on US ponies, places, etc., and has 14 color pages full of ponies. It also contains cleaning tips, list of terms, baby or adult/type determining, MIP values for some, my second pony poem, prices, and knock offs. What is neat about this one is I also arranged them by Earthling, Pegasus, and Unicorn in another section. Lastly is a pony index of names!! It was available only through me.
I loved from the start being able to help others with my knowledge. This and my love for ponies is what prompted me to create this second edition, and go on to print!
*********************************************

My Third/1st Published
Pages 68 & 69

ISBN#: 0-7643-1013-5
Released: December 24, 1999 - mid 2007 Out of print, see revised edition below to order.
Yes, this is really my third book, but first one published by a publisher. It is titled: "The World Of My Little Pony, An Unauthorized Guide To Pony Collectibles." It is published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd., and illustrated by Ann Stroth.
I was 20 - 21 when I wrote it. With the help of my Step-Dad & Schiffer I was able to bring everyone a wonderful, picture filled, informational book at an affordable price!!
It is all about US ponies, items, places, clothes, etc. It has over 300 color photos and is 128 pages long. It includes sections to help you determine whether your pony is a baby or and Adult, on determining your pony's type, and even a list of pony terms!! There is also a very cool "Came With" section picturing mint in package ponies. Lastly there is an ever so helpful index of pony names!!

The World Of My Little Pony, An Unauthorized Guide To Pony Collectibles, Revised 2nd Edition!
See Ordering Information HERE
Page 33 & 68

ISBN#: 978-0-7643-2878-7
Released: January 2008
******I have updated/replaced 21 pictures including a brand new cover! I also added porcelain ponies in the front portion, updated a few prices, and information on the Princess Ponies, Wedding Couple, L'il Litters, Home Sweet Home, and Megan's Place, and a few other items. Unfortunately this all time would allow. Pony clothes, items, and the other pony places were not updated, sorry. The pony section is complete for the most part now with pictures though!
Important Note! I was contacted by Schiffer to update my original version in August '07. I was not allowed to add any pages, and I could only add pictures in empty spaces (of which there were none). I was also given a very limited time frame to make any updates. I was allowed to replace existing pictures and update text only. This book is not expanded, only updated! The publisher added the word "Expanded" to the title, and would not remove it regardless of my requests. Furthermore, when Schiffer printed my revised book the print quality was poor compared to my first edition. The new pictures are nice and bright, but the un-revised photos lack clarity and some even lack color! It seems to be worse from the Babies section on. I expressed major concern over this with Schiffer, and got nowhere! This is a good book for the information, and to see the pony, but the print quality isn't as good as the first edition, so I don't want anyone to be misled! I hope you enjoy it, as I am a little over critical being a pony collector!

My Fourth
Also see Ordering Information HERE
Pages 20 & 21

Pages 46 & 47

ISBN#: 0-7643-1749-0
Released: February 2003
Yup, my fourth (or 2nd published) is here! It is titled "My Little Pony, Around The World." And it covers of course, ponies from all over the world! It is published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd., illustrated by Ann Stroth, & my brother did the cover!
My book mainly covers ponies made outside the US! Included are: Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Holland, UK, and more!! It has around 300 color photos, and it is 144 pages long. It includes sections to help you determine whether your pony is a baby or and adult, on determining your pony's type, a list of pony terms!! Included is an article on moving and displaying your ponies, and a misspelled pony names portion. There are updated prices for my former book, and an updated US section of ponies, etc., not pictured in my last book! The "Came With" section is back with all new US mint in package ponies shown! Lastly there is an ever so helpful index of pony names, places, & sets!!

If this is Debra Birge, I love you and you are my idol:)
I love your book. When are you publishing another one?
I'm obsessed...it was Strawberry Shortcake and now it's morphed to MLP.
It's a great honour to send you email. Growing up I had not one pony, I'm 22 now, do you think that's why I'm crazy about em?:)
Have a wonderful day.

Debra,
I want to congradulate you on a wonderful My Little Pony book!! This is the first one I`ve seen and since I`ve been collecting since I was 3 it has helped me identify alot of my ponies! I noticed in your book the section on Dream Beauties. I have one of these horses and never knew they were related to MLP`s.I have Sky Splasher and I noticed you didn`t have a picture of her in there. If you need a picture of her for your next book you can ask me.My horse isn`t in the greatest condition but it could give readers an idea of what she looks like. Again thank you for the greatest MLP book ever!
Beth

Hi,
Not too long ago, I purchased a MLP book from you on ebay. I just wanted to
let your daughter know that it is an outstanding publication and a great
asset to all MLP collectors!

Hi Debra,
I know you spent a lot of time on your book. We are doing a Toy show up in
San Jose, Ca. In march if you have some order forms I would be glad to take
them to the show. At our last show in San Jose the pony people came through
and we told them that your book was coming out. Oh by the way at Barns &
Noble your book is 3 to 5 weeks for order.

I am thrilled with the book you did a beautiful job.
It is so nice to show a pony to my parents instead of
trying to describe it. You have done a fabulous job
and should be very very proud. It has also helped my
parents to keep an eye out for the other pony items
Thanks so much:)

Hello Debra,
I just wanted to le you know that I got your pony book in the mail
yesterday.
I have spent all day yesterday and today going through it several times.
It is just wonderful!
The pictures are lovely and the guide is vey informative.
You have done a great job putting your book together.
May you have lots of success with it.
I also want to ask you something.
May I use your grading key for grading my ponies?
I would like to use the your grading key for my site because I feel
it is much more usefully for ponies than using the "C-1 / C-10" grading
scale.
Thanks

I thought that the idea of this book was great!
I've not seen it, but am ordering acopy of it, next week..:)
I saw it, and I wondered what use it would be, then I realised that it is
a good guide to MLP prices, as well as been a good part of anyone's
collection.
It might hlep new collectors not to pay over the odds for ponys, adn might
help poeple who charge $15 fro applejack to see the error of their ways..
More to come

I Debra, I tried to order your book from every book store in my state
(Alaska) and they all said the same thing, It is sold out to the
distributors. Now the link that has been put up for it here won't work. I
have bid on a paper back dutch auction so I can have one. But what I really
want is a hard back one. Does it come this way too? By the way I think it is
great. I don't think prices are that relevant because you can buy the ponies
for different prices depending on where you get them. But just to have a
reference for me is so important and I personally can't wait to see one of
the books. GREAT JOB!!! Sincerely Sharon Smith

Well, in defense of the book, I have it and I love it! Debra did a great
job, the prices she quotes are very reasonable, the pictures are great!
There's a ton of info in it! I think it's great that Pony collectors now
have a guide, it will be very helpful for the younger and newer collectors.
I'm rather grateful to Debra for all the work she did.
Just my $0.02.

Hey, Debra,
I think you book is awesome. Heh.
Just wanted you to know I felt it to be pretty
accurate as far as prices go, nevermind the whole "who
wants which pony more and who has the cash" scenario.
A price guide can't really compete with all us crazy
rich pony people or us poor pony people who scrounge a
lot. :)
(I happen to waver between rich and poor :)
Although I would have enjoyed a more extensive guide
(you have to pardon the fact that I am a writer and a
graphic designer and a pony freak all wrapped up into
one), and perhaps one that went in chronological
order, (which just would have helped me per year) this
one sure made my day!
Glad to say that I got the chance to congragulate you
on your hard work. And gosh darn, had I only known,
I'd have written it myself.
:) Best Wishes to You!

Hi all, we received the NEW Pony Guide Book
today and it is a GREAT item.
Debra did a WONDERFUL job on it.
I hope now she starts on Volume II and
includes UK ponies and oddities.
( I think I heard her scream-nooooo ).
I would wish that the Home Sweet Home
was in it and that Megan's Place was in
it too. I guess the graphics in a BIG book
like that would really eat up any profits though
if there were too many pictures.....If nothing else
by the pictures, put in the "other" items. Like in
the purses-list the other purses as long as she
had seen pictures of them and knew for a fact they
were made; or where the VHS Tapes are-put in
the others that were made, etc.
Goodness-I almost fell over when I saw a
My Little Pony Toy Box-that is a
ONE-OF-A-KIND for sure,
NO, it is not in her book but that is why
I would like to see some of the oddities.
All in all-the book is really a MUST for ALL Pony Lovers-
the graphics are wonderful and REALLY cleared up some
questions I had on some ponies and items. I never knew
how to tell which Lemon Drop went with the Stable and
which was sold as a playset pony but now I do-hooray!!
Oh--personal opinion is that most of the prices
are reasonable. Enjoy---Sparkle-pony

howdy,
i got a copy of your book at B&N. i just love it! the pix are all clear & colorful. it nicely depicts all of the ponies. i especially like the big pic of sweet scoops, she is so pretty! about the magenta mail order mom & baby set, are those their real names or did you just make them up? i like the name mother love! lol.
are you going to make a uk edition of the book? that would be really neat! maybe some of the uk people on the list could send you the pix.
i would like to thank you for publishing this wonderful book for all the mlp collectors of the world. it is an excellent way to identify and fairly price a person's ponies. :)
